SMESU Edinburgh is a youth-led Explorer Scout Unit for young people aged 14-18. We are part of The Scout Association and a part of a larger worldwide movement of over 50 million members. SMESU was established in 2002 and is part of Braid District Scouts.
We currently have around 80 members who work in partnership with our volunteer leadership team to deliver an exciting programme of varied and challenging activities to help our members develop important skills for life. This includes weekly activities, weekend and week-long camps, and longer overseas expeditions.
As Scouts, we believe in bringing people together. We celebrate diversity and stand against intolerence, always. Our international expeditions help us develop these values, by living and working alongside local people from different countries, cultures, and religions, to achieve a positive impact for both our members and the communities we visit. We are currently developing our next international expedition to Rwanda in 2020.
As a unit, we work in partnership with the 60th Braid (Buckstone) and the 114th Braid (Fairmilehead) Scout Groups. Each year, if we have spaces available, we also welcome new members from other Scout Groups and young people who are new to Scouting via our waiting list.
What we do
As Scouts, we believe in preparing young people with skills for life. Our members do more, learn more and become more. They develop teamwork, leadership, and resilience. Find out more about our actvities, progressive awards and the international opportunities we offer.
