About SMESU

South Morningside Explorer Scout Unit is based in Edinburgh; we are a youth led unit for young people aged 14-18. We are part of The Scout Association, and one part of a worldwide movement of over 28 Million. SMESU was started in 2002 as part of a nationwide scheme to reorganise Scouting in the UK.

We currently have a youth membership of around eighty and a leadership team of seven. We pride ourselves of delivering a varied, interesting, and challenging weekly programme. We also ensure a continuous programme of adventurous activities, weekend and weeklong camps and expeditions.

SMESU is always looking to give our members the best possible development experiences and this has extended to a programme international expeditions. We have undertaken unit expeditions to Denmakr (05), Malaysia (06), Switzerland (07) and Uganda (09). Check out our international section for more. We now have in place plans for an international expeditions in to Kandersteg in 2010.

At SMESU we run a progressive programme of Scout Awards and Duke of Edinburgh Awards, we also encourage and support our members to take opportunities to become young leaders at out local Beaver, Cub and Scout Groups.
