Hey all! So, what to write… Well, I guess it all started for me back in ’84, when my mum dragged me up to join the local Beaver Scout section at Fairmilehead! Since then, I have continued through 114th Morningside Scout Group where I learnt about everything from outdoor education to survival techniques – yes I can even cook my own dinner now (although I still need help with the ironing)!

Neil and I started up the Venture Scout Section in 1999, and then launched SMESU in 2002, in line with the national re-organisation requirements. Since then, SMESU has continued to grow, remaining focused on delivering a range of challenging activities, centred around the core principles of personal development, based on a ‘learning by doing’ approach.

Our leaders and members have enjoyed community development and conservation expeditions to Isle of Arran (’00), Namibia (’02), Italy (’03), France (’04), Denmark (’05), Malaysia (’06) and Switzerland (’07).
