SMESU Edinburgh is a youth led unit for young people aged 14-18. We are part of The Scout Association, and one part of a worldwide movement of over 30 Million. SMESU was established in 2002 and is part of Braid District Scouts.
We currently have a youth membership of around eighty and a leadership team of five. In 2013 the Leadership team was awarded the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service for it work. We pride ourselves of delivering a varied, interesting, and challenging weekly programme. We also ensure a continuous programme of adventurous activities, weekend and weeklong camps and expeditions.
At SMESU we run a progressive programme of Scout Awards, we also encourage and support our members to take opportunities to become young leaders at our local Beaver, Cub and Scout Groups.
A key aim of the unit is to give our members the best possible development experiences and this has extended to a extensive programme of international expeditions planned and delivered by our voluntary leaders. We have undertaken unit expeditions to Denmark (2005), Malaysia (2006), Switzerland (2007), Uganda (2009), Switzerland (2010), Portugal (2012), Nepal (2013), Switzerland (2014), Cambodia (2016), Czechia (2017) and Switzerland in 2018. We are now working on our next international expedition to Rwanda in 2020.

We provide opportunities to actively engage and support young people in their personal development, empowering them to make a positive contribution to society.
