Queen's Award for Voluntary Service
On 2nd June 2013 SMESU was deeply honoured to learn that we have been awarded the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service. It is presented for outstanding achievement by groups of volunteers. The award has the same recognition as a MBE and will belong to the unit for as long as it continues to serve the young people in the community. More info
SMESU returns from month long adventure in Nepal
SMESU spent the month of July in Nepal with 51 members. We saw the sights of Kathmandu, trekked in the Himalaya, renovated a primary school in the rural village of Chang Patan and rode elephants on safari in Chitwan. The members were a credit to themselves and Scouting and through there own experience, helped change the lives of themselves and other. A video of of expedition can be viewed below.
SMESU Joins Heart Start Scheme
SMESU has been accepted onto the British Heart Foundations Heart Start scheme. We will soon be delivering CPR and first aid training to out unit along with other local Scouting and Youth Groups. The funding includes the purchase of 10 resuscitation mankins to support the training. The leaders will be trained up as instructors over the next few months and we are looking forward to our first course in Spring 2014. If you want to find out more then please click here.
